Ever since 1977, Japan's Population growth has been steadily decreasing. In that year, the growth rate was 1%. But now, the "growth" rate in Japan is -0.1%. Even though this isn't a dramatic change, it is causing Japan to fall into the 5th stage of demographic development in which the death rate surpasses the birth rate and the countries population falls. Sweden is possibly the only other country which is in this stage.
